Knight Raids Class of 2005

Bobby Knight has shown in the past that he's not afraid to offer scholarships to younger players. This week, to the best of our knowledge, he took the first commitment from a member of the Class of 2005.

Wilkerson Picks Texas Tech

First Damon Bailey and now Justin Wilkerson.

Texas Tech head coach Bobby Knight offered Wilkerson a scholarship and he accepted. The news here is that Wilkerson is a sophomore member of the Class of 2005.

There are some in Texas who are under the impression that this is the state's first-ever sophomore commitment in hoops. Nationally, unless we missed something, this is the first known commitment from a member of the 2005 class.

Apparently, the family went down to Lubbock, liked it and committed when offered. As a freshman, Wilkerson averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds. According to an Associated Press report, he also blocked 100 shots and made 40 3-pointers.

He is listed my Texas high school basketball scout Mike Kundstadt as one of the best sophomores in the Dallas area.

Knight offered then 8th grader Damon Bailey a scholarship to Indiana. The move worked out well as the high school legend was an All-Big Ten performer during his career in Bloomington.
