War On The Shore, Day One

SCORES:

Blair 79, Our Savior 43
Notre Dame Prep 94, National Christian 53
West Nottingham 40, Life Center 38

2003 Checklist:

Luol Deng, SF, Blair Academy: Here's a stat line for you: 25 points, 10-19 FG, 5-5 FT, 17 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocks, 8 turnovers. Suffice it to say, Deng filled the stat sheet. He sees the court so well and is a superb team player. He's got a tremendous feel for the pace and flow of the game. He did into some trouble over handling the ball on the wing. Played through some legs cramps in the second half.

Charlie Villanueva, SF, Blair Academy: After getting saddled with two fouls early, Charlie found a groove in the second half. He completed a few post moves and went 7-10 from the line to finish with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Gary Ervin, PG, Notre Dame Prep: Played just 17 minutes against National Christian because his team went up and he's nursing a bum ankle. He did have 12 points, 4 steals and 3 assists. Notre Dame was able to put the polish on the win early and he was able to get some rest. Love his toughness.

2004 Checklist

Tello Palacios, PF, Our Savior: Against Deng and Villanueva, he drew some tough competition. After getting out of the gates slowly, he got Our Savior to within two points of Blair in the second half before they ran out of gas. Regardless, he aggressively took the action to both Deng and Villanueva and made things happen. The junior had 22 points and 6 rebounds in a very nice effort.

Off The Dribble:

Reggie George, Notre Dame Prep's center, could get major conference inquiries. He has the body for that level but plays in spurts and needs polish on offense. … Life Center's Mbania Narmbaye is in the same boat as George. He doesn't have great feel for his position but has value with his rebounding and size. With the shortage in big men, both may get recruited slightly higher… Life Center's Arnaud Dahi was aggressive on offense today when his teammates seemed tentative. He finished with 18. …

West Nottingham swingman Cheyenne Moore had the two best jams of the evening. … UConn-bound big man Josh Boone quietly put together a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. …
