Walton Makes The Call

A.J. Walton, according to his AAU coach, is headed to the Big 12. The Arkansas Wings and Little Rock Hall standout made the call Tuesday evening.

The Baylor Bears landed a point guard (no, not THAT point guard) on Tuesday. While Scott Drew's team remains firmly entrenched in the recruitment of John Wall, it did secure a suitable running mate in A.J. Walton.

"I hadn't talked to him but I talked to his mom and she said he did (commit)," Arkansas Wings coach Derrick Williams told Scout.com.

"A.J. was real good for us. Nobody could stop him from getting to the hole. He set up his guys well and he did just about everything. Defensively, he's real hard nosed."

Two weeks ago while playing in the Amateur Athletic Union championships, Walton told Scout.com that Baylor, Arkansas, Kentucky and Marquette were his choices. Inside word focused on Baylor and the Razorbacks and on Tuesday the news began to break that Walton would play in the Big 12 for the Bears.

Walton averaged 12 points and 7 assists for last year's state champion Little Rock (Ark.) Hall. He was named Mr. Basketball in the state as a junior.
