2009 Introduction: Sam Hicks

Sam Hicks was virtually unknown heading into July, but he's now on the radar of a number of college coaches...

Sam Hicks, 6-8 SR C/PF Redding (Calif.) Liberty Christian, is a very promising young post with some upside. While he's somewhat raw offensively, Hicks has live legs, a good frame, a very good motor and he plays with toughness. I think he's one of the more underrated prospects in the west. And, no, I'm not related to him.

I spoke with Hicks recently and he gave me a list of schools that have been in contact with him since the July evaluation period.

"Nevada, St. Mary's, Santa Clara, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, UC Davis, Cal Poly, Idaho State and San Francisco," said Hicks. "San Francisco has offered."

I asked Hicks if he has set up any visits yet.

"Not yet. I've talked with some coaches about it, but we haven't set any dates yet," said Hicks.

Hicks said he doesn't have really have a set of criteria yet for choosing a school, but he does have one factor in mind.

"I don't think I'll go East – I'll most likely stay somewhat close to home," said Hicks.

When asked if he has a feel for which schools are recruiting him the hardest, Hicks said, "Probably Idaho State and USF."

Hicks said he isn't sure when he'll make his decision, but he will most likely sign in November.
