Memphis Goes Juco Route For Big

John Calipari's Memphis Tigers locked in on a key junior college target and circled the wagons Thursday night.

The Memphis Tigers dipped their toes into the junior college pool Thursday night and secured a commitment from 6-foot-9 center Will Coleman. The Miami-Dade Junior College prospect had trimmed his school list to three.

"It was UConn and Pitt," Coleman said. "They were recruiting me and then Memphis came into the picture. I always liked them and their offense. I then got it down to Pittsburgh and Memphis and I choose Memphis."

When Coleman had been tagged initially by Pittsburgh the lead recruiter was Orlando Antigua. This past summer, Antigua changed residences and accepted a position at Memphis. Once he changed addresses, Antigua began pursuing Coleman.

As a freshman, Coleman entered college weighing 215 pounds. After an intense weightlifting regimen, he's up to 255 and excited about the change in body mass.

So, what's he expecting in terms of junior year production? "It's going to be hard for me to say. That's going to be my first year playing in that environment, on that circuit and running that type of offense. I don't know what to expect."
