Friars New Additon A Real Charmer

Keno Davis, Providence's new skipper, went into the Charm City and snagged an all-city player. After a year of prep, Antoine Allen will head north.

Keno Davis and the Providence Friars struck Saturday afternoon. The Friars foray into Baltimore led to a commitment from Antoine Allen of the 2008 Baltimore City champions.

The 6-foot-2 guard from Lake Clifton averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds his senior season. Miami, Rutgers, Central Florida and Towson showed interest. He'll attend Fitchburg (Mass.) Notre Dame Prep and matriculate with the Class of 2009.

Allen, a versatile wing, fits with the style the Friars hope to incorporate in the Big East. "Basically, they've given me the green light," Allen said. "They're going to let us play and I like the way Coach Keno plays. It was a hard decision."

Allen's AAU coach Anthony Lewis thinks the Friars have a two-way player. "In terms of his performance, he's an excellent lead guard. In playing in the Big East you need guys who can score and be tough on both sides of the basketball. He's that kind of guy.
