2009 Introduction: Brandon Smith

Brandon Smith, a heady, true point guard from Northern California, has offers from Big 12, WCC and Big West programs...

Brandon Smith, 5-10 SR PG Concord (Calif.) De La Salle, is a tough and savvy point guard with a very good feel for the game. While he's a bit undersized, Smith is a true point and excellent competitor.

I spoke with Smith recently and he gave me a rundown on his recruitment.

"The schools recruiting me the hardest right now are Colorado, St. Mary's, Cal and UC Santa Barbara," said Smith. "They've all offered except for Cal. Also, San Francisco has offered as well."

Smith spoke a little about the issues he'll consider when choosing a school.

"I want to stay in the west -- pretty close to home – Colorado is about as far away as I'd go," said Smith. "The school atmosphere, and how the students support the team, is important to me. Also, the staff and the players, what kind of character they have on and off the court is very important."

Smith said he has an official visit lined up to Colorado at the end of September.

"I'm still talking to my parents about the other visits I might take," said Smith. "My goal is to sign in November and be able to focus on the season.
