Junior Profile: Robert Rothbart

Robert Rothbart, a very skilled post player from Northern California, talks about his recruitment...

Robert Rothbart, 6-11 JR PF Cupertino (Calif.) Monta Vista, is originally from Yugoslavia and he plays a European style game. He's very skilled with the ball on the perimeter -- handles and passes like a small forward, with a fairly good outside shot. He's still learning to play inside, but he's got nice hands and he's willing to mix it up despite a lack of bulk. At this time, he projects as a high major player, with the potential to end up as an elite, national-level prospect.

We spoke with Robert yesterday and he told us that he hasn't really focused too much on colleges yet. "I'm interested in Cal, Stanford and some of the other Pac-10 and West Coast schools," Rothbart said. "If it works out, I'd like to stay in the west, but I'm open to others if there's a better situation. No one has really jumped in the lead yet."

Rothbart visited San Diego St. unofficially last summer and he's been to the Cal and Stanford campuses as well.

It's possible Rothbart could make a fairly early decision. "I'd like to take some trips in the spring, said Rothbart. "I don't know much about the colleges, but I might be ready to decide after I've taken some official visits. Maybe in the summer."

Rothbart talked about some of the issues that will be important in his decision. "I'm not a straight A student or anything, but I believe strongly in academics," said Rothbart. "I don't want to just go to a school for basketball. I want to build a relationship with a coach during the recruiting process and it'll be important that he can use my versatility. I'm not just a center under the basket -- I want a chance to play on the perimeter."

Rothbart told us that he has a GPA of around 3.0 and he will take the SAT in December.
