Top Three For Derrick Williams

Derrick Williams, a talented senior forward from Southern California, has two Pac-10 schools and a Big East program as his current favorites...

Derrick Williams, 6-7 SR PF/SF La Mirada (Calif.) had a terrific summer and his recruitment took off as a result. The talented forward has the skills to possibly play either the three or the four in college.

I spoke with Williams recently and he gave me a list of schools he's considering.

"I'm hearing from USC, Washington, Washington State, Marquette, San Diego and Santa Clara," said Williams. "They've all offered scholarships."

I asked Williams if any schools stand out for him at this time.

"USC, Marquette and Washington are probably my favorites," said Williams. "USC has said they would take me right now if I want to commit today. They said I'll play the three and if Renardo (Sidney) comes, he'll play the four. "

Williams has some visits lined up.

"I'm visiting Washington this Friday on an unofficial," said Williams. "I'll go to USC for an official on September 13th and Marquette for an official on September 20th."

I asked Williams if he has a timeframe for picking a school.

"I think I'll be ready to decide right after the Marquette visit," said Williams.

When asked what he's looking for in choosing a school, Williams replied, "I basically just want someplace where I can play and contribute right away. And good academics, of course."
