Whirlwind Summer Gets Knight To This Point

Maine center Tom Knight used the July period to heat up his recruitment. With mid and high-major programs giving chase, Knight faces tough decisions.

Dixfield (Maine) Dirigo High is home to a big old prospect named Tom Knight. Prior to the summer, few new of the 6-foot-9, 245 pounder.

"My junior year in school, I thought I'd be stuck at the low to mid-major level," Knight said. "After the summer started, that changed."

What changed for Knight was that he went to Reebok Camp and the big boys began looking his way. "When I got back, Coach Pitino gave me a call," Knight said.

A month later, Knight has it narrowed down to Northeastern, Notre Dame, Harvard, Seton Hall, Maine, Davidson and Providence. Obviously his list contains schools from different levels. Knight admits deciphering between the mid and high-level programs is a difficult decision.

"When I think about the high-majors, I think it's good basketball. If I can play at some point in time freshman year I'd be happy. When I think of mid-major I want to make sure I can be on the floor as soon as I get there.

"I want to go somewhere that I can get playing time freshman year."

In September he'll visit Davidson the weekend of the 13th and then Northeastern the 20th. Notre Dame called and would like to see him the final weekend of the month.

Knight said he's thinking of becoming an athletic trainer.
