Sherrill To Call A-10 Home

There's been much recent speculation about K.J. Sherrill. Originally expected to visit East Carolina this weekend, Sherrill picked up the phone and made the A-10 his next destination.

Mike Gurley, the head coach at West Rowan in Mount Ulla, N.C., has seen players come through his program through the years. Currently, his big timer is 6-foot-6 power forward K.J. Sherrill.

After a strong summer and offers from UNC-Wilmington, East Carolina, Charleston and Winthrop, Sherrill committed to Charlotte. Last season, Sherrill accounted for 18 points and 11 boards.

"He called Bobby Lutz on the phone today," Gurley said. "He had a pow wow with his parents last night and felt really good about the commitment. It just fit for him. It's the chance to play big time basketball within a 35-minute radius was too enticing."

Sherrill caught the eye of numerous programs in Orlando at the AAU's when he worked hard inside and demonstrated an explosion around the hoop.

"For me, his work is not done. But, for us he's been a classic Falcon big man. He's the kind of kid who is going to carry us with his intensity and skill. I see him fitting in with the 49ers real well because Bobby like a power forward who can score the ball."

Sherrill, a 3-star recruit, is an excellent addition to the 49ers frontcourt and we expect him to play a significant role for Lutz over the course of his career.

"He's even keeled. He's the kind of kid who doesn't get to high or to low, he just plays."
