2009 Introduction: Brandon Davies

Brandon Davies isn't well-known outside of the west, but he's among the elite prospects in the West Coast class of 2009. He has offers from the Pac-10, Mountain West, WCC and WAC conferences...

Brandon Davies, 6-7 SR PF Provo (Utah) High, is one of the elite post prospects in the West Coast class of 2009. A very skilled big man, with good feet and hands, Davies was a bit under the radar until July. But his performance during the evaluation period earned him attention from numerous college coaches.

I spoke with Davies recently and asked about the schools recruiting him.

"The five schools I'm considering are Cal, Utah State, BYU, Gonzaga and Arizona," said Davies. "I just visited Cal this weekend and I have visits scheduled with Utah State, BYU and Gonzaga. I'm not sure yet if I'll take the fifth visit to Arizona. All five schools have offered."

I asked Davies how the visit to Cal went.

"Everything was really good – the coaches, the environment and the players," said Davies. "I liked everything about it."

When asked what he's looking for in a school, Davies replied, "I'm trying to find the school that is the best fit for me. Academically, someplace where I know I can do well. Playing time early is a big deal also. The location doesn't really matter."

I asked Davies if he has a leader.

"No, I'm still open – I want to make sure I look at all of them before deciding on any leaders," said Davies.

Like many players in Utah, Davies is LDS and I asked him if he plans on taking a mission.

"Because I'm so young (just turned 17 in July), I can't take a mission until I've been in college for two years. So my plan is to play for two years and then decide if I want to go on a mission," said Davies.

Davies said he plans on making his decision after he's visited all of the schools.

"I'll decide sometime before the season," said Davies.
