Crawford Makes The Call; Headed To Big Ten

After an impressive July, Drew Crawford picked up a handful of scholarship offers. He recently accepted one of them and has opted to play his college ball in the Big Ten.

During the July evaluation Drew Crawford took his play to another level. The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder had a solid showing at Peach Jam, then tripped to Orlando for AAU Nationals and put together a big effort.

His strong play led to an upgrade with his recruitment. Monday evening the Naperville (Ill.) Central guard ended the entire process, just as his recruitment was picking up. He verbally committed to Bill Carmody and Northwestern.

"I visited there and I really like the coaching staff and I've known Tavaras Hardy for a quote some time," Crawford said. "I've been real close with him for a long time. Coach [Bill] Carmody is also a great guy and I got to know him over my visit and talking to him on the phone."

Prior to picking Northwestern, Crawford had picked up offers from Wake Forest, Oklahoma State, DePaul and Loyola-Chicago. The Demon Deacons were even scheduled for an in-home visit later this week.

"They have my best interest in mind and I know that," Crawford, who played with the Illinois Warriors on the summer circuit, said. "They were always honest with me and the program seems like it's on the up rise and I wanted to be apart of that."

The Wildcats now hold a pair of commitments in the 2009 class. Crawford joins Warren (Mich.) De La Salle standout Alex Marcotullio.
