Van Treese Makes Decision; Headed To Big East

Stephan Van Treese is off the board. The talented big man is planning to play his college ball in the Big East conference.

Stephan Van Treese has made his college decision. The Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence North standout committed to Rick Pitino and Louisville late Tuesday evening.

"They flew in today," Van Treese said. "Coach Pitino and Coach Pitino Jr. flew in to watch me play open gym. We sat down and talked and they were just telling me how they likdd me and how I'd fit in their system and how they'd make me a better."

"They said they way I play I'll fit in their system," he continued. "It's real close to home and it's a good situation for my family. He offered me and I called him today and told him that I wanted to play for him."

Michigan State was scheduled to come in for an in-home visit this week. Notre Dame, Indiana, Purdue and a host of other schools were also involved with his recruitment at one point.

"They have been recruiting me for a while," Van Treese said. "The thing with Coach Pitino doesn't pressure players. After I first visited there they all thought that I was going to go to IU and that's what I thought, but I mean I think this is going to work out for the best.

Van Treese is the fourth member of the 2009 class to commit to Louisville. He joins a pair of Top 100 prospects in Peyton Siva and Rakeem Buckles, as well as three-star prospect Mike Marra.
