Cobbs Heading East; Picks Big Ten School

Justin Cobbs came to a decision this weekend. He'll take his game to the Big Ten Conference.

Justin Cobb found exactly what he was looking for in Minnesota this past weekend, so before the 6-foot-3 guard left the Minneapolis (Minn.) campus, he gave Tubby Smith and his staff a verbal commitment.

"Justin, myself and his mother all went down to Minnesota," Justin's father Greg said. "The whole environment of the campus, the atmosphere, the diversity of the student body, the diversity of the team and the education, stood out to all of us."

While the campus and atmosphere played apart in his decision, the thought of being coached by Tubby Smith seemed to be the main factor in Cobbs decision to play his college ball at Minnesota.

"Coach Tubby Smith is a proven winner," the elder Cobbs said. "You can't get much better than Tubby Smith. He's up with there Mike Krzyzewski, of Duke, and North Carolina's coaches. He's won a NCAA title. We really got to know him over the weekend and he's just a great person."

According to Cobbs, San Diego State, Iowa and California were also under consideration.

"They had everything that we wanted as far as education and Coach Smith," Cobbs continued. "We spent time at his house with his family and the family atmosphere around the program and the support they have in the city for the kids [is impressive]."

The Gophers current 2009 class is now made up of Cobbs and four-star prospect Royce White, Minnetonka (Minn.) Hopkins.
