Chadwick Changing Coasts

David Chadwick is renewing a long relationship that formed years ago. The power forward out of Charlotte is headed west to play college basketball.

David Chadwick is going to play in the Pac-10.

On Monday night, the Charlotte (N.C.) Latin power forward committed to the Washington State Cougars after looking hard at College of Charleston, George Mason, Ohio, Rice, Tulane, American and Furman.

"He's going to Washington State and I think it's a good spot for him," Latin coach Lane Odom told Scout.com. "I love the system for him and it's a place where he can find a niche. Whatever he needs to make up athletically he can make up for with skill, intelligence and intangibles. That's the way they win."

Chadwick missed over half the season as a junior when he sprained his ankle and subsequently broke his wrist. He averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds when he saw action. He'll visit Washington State officially this week.

Tony Bennett and Cougars have a unique relationship with Chadwick. The elder Chadwick married Bennett and his wife. When Bennett was a player with the Hornets, his path crossed with the Chadwick family and a strong relationship ensued.

Still, the pair never thought the relationship with transform from friends to coach-player. "Never in a 100 years. We used to joke about it but I never thought it was serious. He had been hearing for a while that he should recruit me because of the fit.

"After (the AAU Nationals) he had some relatives and close friends and they were there. He struggled with it but he called my dad and flew in. He watched our workout, we gave him tapes and finally he just said he really liked what he saw and that's how it went."
