Fields Goes With C-USA Program

The plan was to take a few more visits before making a commitment, but Dexter Fields decided he didn't need to wait. He went with a Conference USA program.

Mike Davis and his staff at UAB have put together an impressive recruiting haul in the 2009 class, and Tuesday evening they added Dexter Field, of Orlando (Fla.) Olympia, to the fold.

"He decided that, that was the place that he felt at home," Florida Assault coach Diana Neal said. "The coaches and the players were very friendly and family oriented when we were out there. He just enjoyed himself."

Over the course of the month of July, the 6-foot-2 guard drew looks from a number of school, and according to Neal, his AAU coach, schools such as LSU, Alabama, Central Florida, Western Kentucky and Georgia Southern got involved.

Although Field was planning to take a few other visits, his recruitment was seemingly dragging on and he felt like it was time to go ahead and make his pick.

"The recruiting process got long and overwhelming to him," Neal said. "He went out to UAB and he really liked it and really enjoyed it. The only reason he waited was because he didn't want to feel like he was jumping into something."

Fields, a three-star prospect, joins an already standout 2009 recruiting class that consists of DeMarcus Cousins, Jon Kreft, Adrien Coleman and David Murray.
