James Padgett, a 6-foot-8 center who specializes in finishing strong and owning his area, committed to the Terps after considering a plethora of programs ranging from Pittsburgh, St. John's and West Virginia.
It was a commitment last week to Pitt that got Padgett thinking about making his pledge. "It was very hard at first but once the kid committed last week it was easy for me," Padgett said.
The Brooklyn (N.Y.) Lincoln big said that Maryland demonstrated its vision clearly to him. "I felt that I could go and be an impact. I was comfortable with the coaching staff and on the visit I was comfortable with the team.
"They told me that I'm a big that is different from the ones they have. They need someone of my ability who can run the court and rebound, stuff like that."
Scout.com ranks James Padgett as the No. 21 center in the Class of 2009.
