2010's Canty Makes The Call

2010 standout Jay Canty will play his college basketball 15 minutes from his residence. The outstanding junior wing picked High Point Wednesday night. The Panthers might have stolen one in the form of this versatile perimeter player.

Jay Canty, one of the top juniors in North Carolina, isn't straying far from home. The 6-foot-5 Ragsdale High standout committed to High Point Wednesday night.

Appalachian State and UNC-Greensboro offered the versatile wing player. High Point's staff including assistant Marlon Sears showed Canty a step-by-step plan for his development and locked down the 3-star standout.

"I've been getting some pretty good looks from some other schools but I decided to stay close to home. My family thought it was a good decision. I dreamed about going somewhere bigger but deep down inside I want that education and I want to go to college.

"I took note of how colleges get really interested in you and they told me they really wanted me. I was proud of that."

Canty plays with the N.C. Gaters. How good is Canty and what can happen down the road for him in the Big South? Frankly, he's talented enough to have a significant impact on their program and be an all-league caliber player early in his career.
