Josh Shipp, 6-4 JR SG Los Angeles (Calif.) Fairfax, has an older brother, Joe Shipp, currently playing at Cal and it wouldn't be a suprise to see Josh playing in the Pac-10 in two years. Like his brother, Josh is a very good shooter and he's a slightly better athlete at the same stage.
We spoke with Josh yesterday and asked him which schools are of interest to him right now. "UCLA, UW, Arizona, Oregon and Kentucky," said Shipp. "I'm trying to stay on the West Coast, but I'm going to keep my options open."
When asked if any school stood out from the pack, Shipp replied, "probably Washington -- they offered me in the summer." Shipp added that he has called both the Washington and UCLA coaching staffs.
Early playing time could figure in Shipp's decision. "I want to play early -- that's a fairly important factor," said Shipp. He also told us that winning at the highest level isn't necessarily a determining issue. "It's more about how I can develop under the coaches," said Shipp. "And getting prepared for the next level."
Shipp plans on taking his time with the decision. "I'm going to take my time and take some trips," said Shipp. "A lot of stuff can happen -- coaches can get fired."
Shipp told us he has a 3.2 GPA and he hasn't yet taken the SAT.
