2010's Thomas Headed To SoCon

Junior Anthony Thomas, a 6-foot-5 junior out of Quality Education Academy, is headed to the Southern Conference in 2010.

"It's like falling in love, that's how I felt," Anthony Thomas said Tuesday night. "People think they don't fall in love but you never say never."

Thomas, a 2010 small forward out of Winston-Salem (N.C.) Quality Education Academy, committed to Western Carolina. Charlotte, Buffalo, Mount St. Mary's, Marshall and Clemson were some of the programs keeping tabs on Thomas.

Recently, Thomas visited campus and simply knew that playing for the Catamounts was the right move for him.

"They're comparing me to Kevin Martin," Thomas said. "They tell me they're going to build it around me and for them to say something like that, they've got a lot of interest in me. I loved the campus, the people and the coaching staff. It's just right for me."

For Larry Hunter's WCU program, persistence paid off. Thomas has a chance to develop into a legitimate impact player for WCU.

"Basically, since I was a freshman they were recruiting me," Thomas said.
