Bruce Pops For A-10

Don't look now but the Atlantic 10 is assembling a lot of size within its ranks. Earlier this week, David Bruce became the next big one to pop for a school in the league.

It was one of those "you had to be there moments."

David Bruce, a 6-foot-9 big man out of Linden (N.J.) High had just turned in quite possibly the best high school game of his career. The stage was the 2008 Prime Time Shootout. Bruce hung 34 points and 15 points on St. Raymond's.

This week, Bruce showed loyalty to the first school that recruited him and verbally committed to St. Joseph's. "It was just that it seemed right and it seemed like home for home," Linden coach Phil Colicchio told Scout.com. "They were the first school to offer. He did a great job with keeping his feet on the ground with his decision."

Bruce would have other strong games as a junior. Over the course of the season he averaged 15 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. His performance against St. Ray's went a long way toward punching his player's card.

Now Bruce has to hunker down in the classroom and get it done.

"There's always a chance any kid isn't going to make it," Colicchio said. "He's close and we're keeping our fingers crossed and go from there."
