Boynton Is A Gator

The wait is over. Kenny Boynton, one of the most coveted prospects in the Class of 2009, is a Florida Gator.

There may be better prospects in the Class of 2009. Maybe not.

Some are bigger, some have more athleticism. None bring the intangibles that Kenny Boynton possesses. Simply stated, the kid's a winner.

On Thursday, the Florida Gators secured a major piece of what it hopes can become a national championship puzzle.'s No. 8 prospect from Plantation (FL) American Heritage committed to Billy Donovan's crew after considering Duke, Georgia Tech, Texas and Southern Cal.

"I knew after my visit that Florida was it," Boynton told "I was confident and I knew it."

The 6-foot-2 Boynton averaged 34.5 points per game as a junior. Last summer, while playing with Team Breakdown, we witnessed Boynton smoke 2 of 3 game-winning shots over the course of the traveling team season.

"Kenny is best when the lights are the brightest," American Heritage coach Danny Herz said. "He rises to the occasion and has that killer instinct. He plays to flat out win. He loves to win and he loves to win playing the game."

Boynton has big aspirations for his freshman season. "It's my home state. I think coming in if we could be No. 1 the entire year, win in front of everyone, that would be the perfect picture."
