"[I liked] the whole environment and the way the coaches were coming at me," Latham said. "Coach [Sean] Miller and coach [Emmanuel] Richardson came at me real hard. All it took for me to make a commitment was go up there and I really liked the campus."
Coach "Book" Richardson was the point man on Latham, and according to the talented big man their relationship was a big factor in his decision.
"Me and coach Book's relationship is real good," Latham said. "They can only call me once a month, but I call coach Book on the regular to see how he's doing. When he gets a chance to call he always does. We have a real close relationship."
"That played a big role in my decision," he continued. "He's like a big brother to me. I don't talk to him like he's a coach, I talk to him like he's my brother or uncle. Coach Miller's a good guy too and I liked getting to sit down and talking to him."
The Baltimore (Md.) City College standout picked Xavier over a variety of interest. Richmond and Oregon State offered, while Virginia Tech, Texas, Maryland, Oklahoma, Penn State, Oregon, Marquette and LSU all showed interest.
"They did a really good job, as far as sending me mail and things on the school and talking to my parents," Latham said of the way the Xavier staff recruited him.
Latham is rated as a four-star prospect on Scout. He's ranked No. 8 at the center spot and No. 50 overall.
He's the first 2010 prospect to give Sean Miller and Xavier a verbal commitment.
