Big East The Choice For Martin

2010's Justin Martin hasn't played a varsity game to date. Hey, he's in good company. Chris Paul played JV as a sophomore too! While we aren't comparing Martin to Paul, they both are/were high-major players. On Monday, Martin found his niche in the Big East.

Justin Martin will make his Lawrence North varsity debut Nov. 26.

That's correct, you're eyes did not deceive you. You did read the first sentence right. Martin, a 6-foot-6 wing out of famed Lawrence North hasn't played a single game with the varsity. Scout.com tabbed him at the No. 36 prospect in the Class of 2010 after a series of impressive AAU performances.

On Monday, the Louisville Cardinals secured a commitment from Martin. The small forward had trimmed his list to Louisville and Xavier.

Martin, who obviously will log time this year on the varsity, was motivated by the extra time he spent with the second unit.

"I looked it as fuel because the coaches didn't think I was ready to play," Martin said. "I just worked harder in order to make them realize I need some time. I did my work at the school and I put in extra work and kept going at it."

Speaking of working hard, Louisville did its due diligence with Martin and came away with the prized wing. When it came time to decide, U of L's head coach played a significant role.

"It was Coach Pitino. He's a great guy and the way he takes care of his players and motivates them to excel on and off the court. The environment of Louisville sold me and their staff is amazing at what they do."
