Weatherspoon Elects To Commit

Junior forward J.D. Weatherspoon figured that by Wednesday morning we should have a new president. What better way to usher in a new administration than with a new commitment!

They're going to love J.D. Weatherspoon at Xavier.

On election night, the 6-foot-6 power forward out of Columbus (Ohio) Northland, offered up the most interesting take we've heard on why he picked right now to commit.

"I thought that it was time for a new commitment AND a new president," Weatherspoon told

On Tuesday evening, Weatherspoon punched his ballot for Sean Miller and the Xavier Musketeers. He owned scholarship offers from Dayton, Akron and James Madison.

Aside from the basketball and political implications, Weatherspoon was drawn to "X" for its ability to draw in viewers. "First of all every game they play is going to be on ESPN. They've been to the Elite Eight two times in the past five years."

A power forward with his AAU and high school teams – both of which are highly successful – Weatherspoon sees the day when he hopes to transition to the wing. "Everybody has to work and if I keep progressing, everything will go smoothly. Their vision for me is to be a small forward."
