On Wednesday, the 6-foot-8 power forward out at Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei offered up a commitment to Dawkins. The pledge is Dawkins' first as the Stanford coach.

"Stanford's great because the Pac-10 is elite competition and its one of the top schools education-wise in the world," Brown texted.

San Diego, Utah, Arizona, California and Michigan were schools that actively recruited him. Brown visited Stanford Oct. 11.

"Coach Dawkins is a great coach and human being," Brown said. "I look forward to learning from him and also being his first recruit is nice. Basketball wise it's going to be great playing with their type of system because I fit in well."
