Change of Plans, Reid Signs Early

On Oct. 1, Jeff Reid was committed to waiting until the spring. Six weeks later he committed and signed with an A-10 program.

The St. Louis Billikens played beat the clock on the final day of the signing period.

Jeff Reid, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Topeka (Kan.) Hayden, committed to Rick Majerus' team. A month ago, Reid was committed to waiting until the spring. However, the Billikens won him over.

"They've got a great coaching staff," Reid said in a text. "I liked being with the players and loved the school."

For Reid, a wing who averaged 17 points a game, the summer didn't quite go as planned. His time on the court and in front of college recruiters was sidelined by an injury that prevented him from enjoying the senior sendoff he had hoped for.

Regardless, St. Louis moved quickly down the stretch to lock him down and for good reason. Last year, Reid helped Hayden to a 25-1 record and the Kansas 4-A state championship.

Reid played with the highly successful K.C. Pump ‘n Run AAU program.
