Big Match Up Kicks Off Strong Week Of Hoops

Scout.com is ready to hit the road and cover some basketball. The action gets going on Thursday and will run through the 23rd.

With the holidays rapidly approaching Scout.com will hit the road over the next week to check out a few of the top events in the country. Below is a preview of the events that Scout.com will cover.

City of Palms – Dec. 18-23


This is arguably the best tournament field in the country. Donnie Wilkie has a loaded field that includes Duncanville (Tex.) High, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei, Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God and a number of other talent laden squads.

The action gets going right away on Thursday. In the second game of the event John Wall, the nation's top point guard, will match up with one of the best two-guards in the country in Florida commit Kenny Boynton.

Among the other highly rated prospects that will be participate are Wally Judge, Leslie McDonald, Shawn Williams, Roger Franklin, Noel Johnson, Lance Stephenson, David Wear, Travis Wear, Maalik Wayns, Michael Gilchrist, Dexter Strickland, Dwayne Polee, Jordin Mayes, Ari Stewart, Richard Howell, John Henson, Austin Rivers and C.J. Leslie.

Opening Day Schedule:
2:30 – Arlington Country Day vs Roman Catholic
4:15 – Word of God vs American Heritage
6:00 – North Port vs Andrew Jackson
7:45 – Dunbar vs Duncanville
9:30 – Fort Myers vs Westchester

In total 15 prospects from Scout.com's 2009 Top 100 will be at the City of Palms. Scout.com will have coverage of the event from Thursday from Monday.

Kreul Classic – Dec. 19 - 23


Not too far away in Ft. Lauderdale, the Kreul Classic has an impressive field as well. Two of the best juniors in the country – Tristan Thompson and Brandon Knight – will be in attendance, but there are plenty of other top prospects to keep an eye on.

To go with Thompson, Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict's has Myck Kabongo, one of the top lead guards in 2011. Quality Education Academy is home to another big time 2011 prospect in Quincy Miller.

The Kreul Classic will use two different courts at Coral Springs City Gymnasium and the local high school. Scout.com will cover the event on December 19th and 20th.

Chick-fil-a Classic – Dec. 19-23


Columbia (S.C.) is also home to a major high school tournament. The 7th annual Chick-fil-a classic has a nice field that consists of a handful of local schools mixed with a number of top regional programs.

Among the top prospects that will play in the event are Milton Jennings, Lakeem Jackson, Mason Plumlee, Marshawn Powell, Mychal Parker, Mfon Udofia, Ryan Kelly and Devin Booker.

King of the Bluegrass – Dec. 18 – 23


The 28th annual King of the Bluegrass will get started on Thursday and it consists of a number of local teams with a handful of team national teams.

Peyton Siva and Jon Hood are the only two members of Scout.com's top 100 that will play in the event. But the field also includes Shawn Kemp, Drew Kelly, Vee Sanford, Aaron Cosby, Desmond Dorsey, Jaylen Beckham and Josh Stroud.
