Australian Ellis Headed To A-10

Over the weekend, Cody Ellis became the latest Aussie big man to find a home in the States. The 6-foot-8 power forward will play for a coach with a record of international success.

Rick Majerus and the St. Louis Billikens went down under to one of the under-the-radar international basketball factories: the Australian Institute of Sport.

What Majerus and his staff eventually discovered was a 6-foot-8 power forward named Cody Ellis. The Billikens would duel Wake Forest and Colorado for his services.

"It was the fact that I could be a part of something special over the next few years," Ellis noted regarding his commitment.

Australia has been very good to a lot of U.S. programs, in particular Majerus. When he was at Utah, the coach recruited and coached Andrew Bogut well enough to be the first overall pick in the NBA Draft.

There's no telling how good Ellis is but he's got the bloodlines working in his favor. Mike Ellis, Cody's father, was a backcourt standout as a professional in leagues in Australia. He played on championship teams and his son is a well-regarded prospect in his own right.

Last month, while in the States, Ellis visited Wake Forest, St. Louis and Colorado.
