"Recruiting is good," McKie told InsideCarolina.com. "I'm still open at the moment. I just got an offer from Georgia Tech about five days ago. All of the schools recruiting me have offered except UNC and Florida."
At the beginning of January rumors circulated that McKie was nearly ready to decide. Turns out it wasn't just a rumor.
"I was ready to decide," McKie admitted. "I just wanted to get it over with. But that was only one day. The next day I decided I wanted to wait it out until after the season because this isn't a decision you rush into."
"I wanted to wait until after the season to see where everything falls," he continued. "After the season I'm going to narrow my list down to four or five and then decide in early June or at the beginning of AAU season."
Thus far McKie has taken visits to all of the schools involved except for Florida and Georgia Tech.
"I want to visit those schools," he said. "Maybe just Georgia Tech, I don't know about Florida yet. But Georgia Tech I want to go visit."
"I think if I go down to Florida and actually visit the school that I'd get an offer from them because they actually sent three assistant coaches up here to see me workout and to come to my school and see my transcript. So I think if I actually go see the school and their campus that I'd get an offer."
With North Carolina and Florida still having not offered, McKie said that he looks at the two schools a little differently, but was quick to point out that they are both still recruiting him.
"At this point you look at them, but this is a situation where both of those schools do things a little differently," McKie said. "But as time goes on and you're ready to make a decision and they still haven't offered you kind of wonder.
"Those two I'm a little weary on, but everybody else is really saying that they really want me and throwing me a scholarship, so I look at them more than the other two."
According to McKie, the Tar Heels have actually picked up their attention compared to December. They sent an assistant to a recent game and he spoke to them on the phone earlier in the month.
"They called me on Christmas Eve and before that I thought they were done recruiting me," he said. "Until then I didn't know. With UNC their recruitment has been up and down. I don't really have a feel for them. I just don't know."
McKie, who will continue to play with Boo Williams this spring and summer, hopes to end his recruitment sometime this summer.
"I'll probably get it over with before senior year," McKie said. "I want my senior year to be as stress free as possible. I don't want to go through all of this again, so I'll probably in the summer time."
