Jon Winder, 6-7 JR SF Irvine (Calif.) Woodbridge, looks a bit like Mike Dunleavy did when he was a junior in high school. Winder is taller, but he's got the same type of body and his game has a few similarities as well. Winder can shoot the three, handles it fairly well and he's a pretty good passer. Right now, Winder projects to at least the mid-major level, but he's got enough upside that he could certainly end up higher.
We spoke with Winder last night and he told us that his basketball list (he's also an elite volleyball player) includes Pepperdine, Gonzaga, Santa Clara and Princeton. "I'd love to play both sports," said Winder. "That's why Pepperdine would be good."
Winder told us that academics will be an important consideration in his decision. He also said that he wouldn't mind leaving home when he goes to college. "I lived back East until I was eight years old," said Winder.
Due to his volleyball commitments, Winder hasn't played a lot of basketball on the AAU circuit. "I played a little with SCA last year," said Winder. "But I'm not sure how much I'll play in the spring, because I'm on the youth national team for volleyball and I don't know how much time that will take."
Winder told us that he has a 3.4 GPA and he's waiting on the results from an SAT test he took in December.
