Johnny McArthur, 6-8 JR C Concord (Calif.) De La Salle, is a promising young post prospect and he's on the recruiting radar for a number of West Coast programs. McArthur is a tough and physical presence inside, as well as being an excellent competitor. He's been very well-coached at De La Salle and he has a very good feel for the game. His offensive game is still coming, but he's a solid defender and rebounder at this time.

I spoke with McArthur recently and asked about the schools he's heard from to date.

"Stanford, Santa Clara, Gonzaga, UC Santa Barbara, Pepperdine and then some of the Ivy schools – Harvard, Yale and Princeton," said McArthur.

McArthur said he doesn't have a leader at this time.

"They're all kind of equal," said McArthur.

I asked McArthur what he is looking for in a college.

"I'd kind of like to stay on the West Coast," said McArthur. "A good education and a good basketball program are the main things."

When asked if early playing time would be an issue, McArthur said, "I'd like to play as a freshman, but if it doesn't work out that way I'll just work harder to get time."

When questioned about the timing of his decision, McArthur said, "I'd like to decide by the end of the summer. If not, then probably before the season starts."

McArthur said he has a 3.2 GPA at this time.
