USC Scores JUCO Big Man

The Gamecocks scored a commitment Thursday evening. Johndre Jefferson gave South Carolina the word while on campus for a visit.

Darrin Horn and his staff at South Carolina picked up their fourth commitment for the 2009 class.

This time around they mined the JUCO ranks to score Johndre Jefferson, originally of South Carolina and now a standout at Okaloosa-Walton Junior College.

"I'm from about 40 minutes from [Columbia] and I grew up wanting to be Gamecock," Jefferson told Scout.com. "I'm excited about it. I can't wait for next season."

Jefferson, a 6-foot-9, 205-pound power forward, said he also had interest from Missouri, Southern Mississippi and UAB, but went with South Carolina because of his comfort level with coach Horn and the program.

"I just like his style of play and he seems like he treats all of his players with fairness and it seems like he's got all of his players best interest at heart," Jefferson said.

Jefferson averaged 10 points and 11 rebounds this past season.

"I think I'm going to bring more shot blocking, rebounding and scoring in the paint. Plus I can run the floor and score in transition."

Jefferson joins four-star prospect Lakeem Jackson and a pair of three-star prospects -- Ramon Galloway and Steve Spinella -- to make up South Carolina's 2009 class.
