Archie Headed To Big Ten

Vincennes University power forward Devon Archie, an Indianapolis native, is heading west (slightly) for college.

Indianapolis was good to Todd Lickliter for many years. On Tuesday, the Iowa coach dipped his toes back into the city's talent pool and nabbed himself a junior college big man.

Devon Archie, a 6-foot-9 power forward out of Vincennes University, committed to the Hawkeyes.

"They were here yesterday and he's supposed to go (visit) later," Vincennes assistant coach Brian Davis told Scout.com. "He'll sign whenever he takes his visit. He likes the coaching staff, his family can see the games. It's not too far from home."

Archie is a bit more prospect at this point but there's a reason. He's relatively new to the game. "His main strengths are rebounding and shot blocking. He's very athletic. Offensively he's a little raw. I think he's just been playing basketball four years and he gets better everyday."

UAB, South Carolina and Cleveland State showed interest in the big fella. Archie attended Ben Davis High School. Archie averaged seven points and six rebounds for Vincennes last season.
