2010 Introduction: Desmond Simmons

Desmond Simmons, a top 2010 prospect from Northern California, is drawing interest from schools in the WCC and Pac-10...

Desmond Simmons, 6-7 JR SF Richmond (Calif.) Salesian, is a very intriguing prospect with athleticism and a good skill set.

Simmons told me recently that he's hearing primarily from four schools at this time.

"Washington, Stanford, Oregon State and St. Mary's have been the main ones," said Simmons. "Oregon State and St. Mary's have offered."

I asked Simmons if he has a feel for which schools have been recruiting him the hardest.

"Oregon State and St. Mary's have been the ones that have always been in the picture," said Simmons. "But Washington has really picked it up in the last couple of weeks."

When questioned about the issues he'll consider when making his choice, Simmons said, "I'd kind of like to stay on the West Coast, but I'd be willing to go elsewhere. I'm looking for a business major because I want to get into sports management. Early playing time isn't a real big deal, but it is a consideration."

Simmons said he's hoping to take some visits this spring.

"I've spoken to the coaches at Washington and Oregon State about visiting," said Simmons. "Hopefully I can do that in April before the AAU stuff gets too busy. I'd like to see what the schools are like when they're still in session."

Simmons said he has given some thought to when he'd like to pick a school.

"I definitely want to be able to decide by the end of summer," said Simmons. "And hopefully I'll have a good idea by late spring."

Simmons said he currently has a GPA around 3.0.
