Shootout Spotlight: Anthony Morrow

CHARLOTTE – Charlotte Latin entered Thursday's game against Marlboro County undefeated. Guard Anthony Morrow came in averaging 22 points a game. Morrow and his team would improve in both categories.

Morrow Has Early List

For Charlotte Latin junior guard Anthony Morrow Thursday was a good day. The Hawks outlasted Marlboro County and Ra'Sean Dickey 62-58 to win their first game in the Dell Curry Shootout.

Morrow, the team's leading scorer, had a huge night. He went off for 36 points, including a smooth 22 in the first half. He shot 9-for-18 from the floor and a lights out 11-for-11 from the line.

His early list of schools includes Charlotte, Tennessee, Georgia Tech and Connecticut. 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz was definitely in the building and we saw Clemson head coach Larry Shyatt in the gym earlier so we'll assume he watched as well. So did UNC assistant Doug Wojcik. Of the schools on the list, we think Charlotte is the closest to or already has offered. The remaining schools are evaluating Morrow.

Morrow's name wasn't tossed around the AAU circuit much last year. Instead of playing summer ball, he was taking summer classes as in SAT/ACT prep classes to get ready for the big exam. He did play at the Nike Hoop Jamboree for underclassmen.

"It was different and it was hard," Morrow said of the level of competition in comparison to what he faces as a Latin player. "The competition level was obviously better." Morrow fared well at the camp.

This summer he'll play some AAU basketball with the Charlotte Nets. On Thursday, it was home cooking in front of a packed crowd at Latin and as far as he goes, it doesn't get much better than 36 points and an 11-0 record.
