The 6-foot-1 point guard out of McKinney (Tex.) High recently spoke with John Calipari and his family and the new UK coach left on the same page. Vilarino opened his recruitment.
"We had a chance to talk to Calipari and he said he thought he'd be good if he got stronger," Gerry Vilarino, G.J.'s father said. "He didn't convince us that he really wanted him. We agreed to open it up and he can take one of his guys."
No hard feelings, but now there's a decision to be made. Vilarino is one of the best guys still on the board. "We're going to cut it down to five people by the end of the week. He's one of the best available right now and there are a lot of people who need point guards. There are only so many point guards available right now. You've got Wall and the Bledsoe kid and he falls into the next layer right now."
Expected to come this week to see Vilarino are Florida State, Oklahoma, VCU, Cincinnati, Oregon, Utah State and Georgia. Others will certainly be in the gym as well. "There's a laundry list of schools and we want to cut it to five by Friday," Gerry Vilarino said.
