Las Vegas: Day One

The first day of action in Las Vegas is a bit ragged, with the overall quality of play being a bit down. Some of the top prospects in attendance include Tyler Lamb, Kevin Johnson and Norvel Pelle, among others...

Las Vegas, Nev. We spent the first day in Las Vegas covering the Fullcourt Press Easter Classic. With college coaches not being allowed out this month the talent is a bit down, but there were still some prospects on hand…

Tyler Lamb, 6-4 SG Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei. This wasn't one of Lamb's better efforts, as the game was ragged and his California Supreme team wasn't really challenged. But Lamb did show his versatility as he grabbed several rebounds and dropped a couple nice passes.

Dwayne Polee, 6-7 PF Los Angeles (Calif.) Westchester. Ball skills are still somewhat raw and lacks a true position. But as bouncy as anyone in the class and usually good for a couple highlight type dunks a game.

Royce Woolridge, 6-1 SG/PG Phoenix (Ariz.) Sunnyslope. Mature-looking prospect with fair athleticism (questionable feet). Scorer's mentality and a streaky shot to three.

Jordan Sims, 6-4 SG Surprise (Ariz.) Liberty. Good-looking wing with basketball body. Long and moves well. Nice stroke to 18-20 feet. A potential sleeper in the 2010 class.

Kyle Fuller, 6-0 SG/PG Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde. Stocky two-guard trying to transition to point guard. Lacks length and not super quick, but good shooter capable of putting up points in a hurry.

Kyle Boswell, 6-2 SG Huntington Beach (Calif.) Edison. Tough and hardnosed two-guard with ability to knock down shots from deep. Not especially athletic, and shot looks a bit funky, but he makes plenty of them.

Norvel Pelle, 6-8 PF Compton (Calif.) Dominguez. Long and athletic young post with high upside. Needs to keep his emotions in check, and play through adversity, but has as high an upside as any post in the west for 2011.

Bryce Thompson, 6-0 PG Richmond (Calif.) Salesian. Wiry lefty with quickness and game. Shot a bit shaky, but he's got a lot of positive qualities as a prospect.

Kevin Johnson, 6-9 C Gardena (Calif.) Serra. Big-bodied young post with nice low-post game. He doesn't miss many inside the paint. Needs to work on maintaining focus, but he's a high major prospect.

Victor Robbins, 6-4 SF Carson (Calif.) High. Good-looking young wing with ball skills and nice frame.
