2005 Spotlight: KC Rivers

CHARLOTTE – At the Dell Curry Shootout, sophomore guard KC Rivers proved that he's one of the top players in the state in the Class of 2005.

Rivers Turns In All-Tourney Effort

KC Rivers, a sophomore guard for Charlotte Independence, was named to the 2002 Regional All-Tournament team at the Dell Curry Shootout. The 6-4 Rivers averaged 21 points a game for Independence which finished with a 1-2 record at the event.

Against Providence Day, he scored 15 points in a loss. He then hit up Victory Christian for 29 points, including a sweet 13-for-14 from the line. On Saturday, he closed the event with a 19-point, 10-rebound effort against Garner.

The lefty with range and a stellar mid-range game can flat out score. He came into the event average 24.7 points a game. There' a certain fluidity and calmness to how he plays. Against Garner, he struggled early with his shot. Instead of getting frustrated, he simply went to the boards and made himself a factor that way, which we think is the mark of an excellent player.

Rivers said that hometown Charlotte has already posted an offer to him. He's a 3.1 student and an honors guy to go along with his basketball credentials. With that said, he's naturally interested in Duke. "I like Coach K's style," Rivers said. "They have an excellent team and if you can play, they give you a chance to play a lot."

He's just a sophomore, but make no mistake about it, Rivers can play.
