2011's Gordon Has Favorite

Derrick Gordon, a sophomore wing, has one program in his sights. The St. Patrick's standout is going camping in June and a commitment could follow.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are close to achieving a commitment from a talented young wing. Derrick Gordon, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard out of famed Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick, has the Toppers high on his wish list.

Gordon is heading to Topper Country in June for elite camp and if all goes well he's thinking that he'll join Ken McDonald's squad while he's there. "I'm going to give a verbal commitment while I'm down," Gordon told Scout.com. "I just have to see the school first and I know that I will like it down there."

Gordon started some games at St. Patrick this year until Kyrie Irving joined up with the squad in January. The Toppers watched him last year and have done a strong job maintaining the relationship.

Terrance Boyd, a senior small forward who signed with the Toppers, helped Gordon understand more about the program. "I spoke with Terrance Boyd after he signed his letter of intent and also with David Laury. They both told me all that I needed to hear about the school."

Gordon would be WKU's first pledge from the Class of 2011.
