Atkins Will Play In the Big East

Eric Atkins visited a Big East school this past weekend. During the trip the 6-foot guard wanted to make a decision, instead he waited and committed a day later.

For the second time, Eric Atkins took an unofficial visit to Notre Dame. This time around the 6-foot floor general came up with a decision.

"They've been recruiting me for a long time, probably since last year," Atkins told "It just felt right."

"I had a great visit," he continued. "This past weekend when I went down there. It was my second visit and I had a great time down there. I spent a lot of time with the players and walked around the campus. It's a beautiful campus. I just had a great time."

Atkins, a standout at Baltimore (Md.) Mount Saint Joseph, had interest from a variety of schools, but said his decision ultimately came down to Notre Dame and Massachusetts.

Prior to leaving campus on Sunday, Atkins sat down with coach Mike Brey. He felt a good vibe from him and committed the next day.

"I sat down with him before we left on Sunday and I had a good talk with him," he said. "I was ready to commit then, but I wanted to wait one day and think it over and talk it over with my mother and today we made the decision."

"I really feel like I bonded with coach Brey over our time communicating," Atkins said. "I really felt like I bonded with him and I liked the plans he had for me when I get there. The education there is out of this world. It's just excellent."

Atkins, a three-star prospect, is Notre Dame's first commitment of the 2010 class.
