Thompson Having Big Junior Year

Small forward Jason Thompson is having an excellent year. The Chatham Central junior is putting up good numbers and recruiters are taking note.

Offers Already On The Table

Bill Slaughter, the head coach at Bear Creek (NC) Chatham Central is pleased with the progress of his standout junior, Jason Thompson. "He's a much more complete player this year," Slaughter said. "Last year he was the conference player of the year. This year he does a little bit of everything for us."

Everything to the tune of 23.5 points a night.

Thompson was a reserve with the Kappa Magic, the 2002 AAU National champs. He's a fine athlete who, at the conclusion of the summer, appeared to be coming into his own as a prospect.

Among his early offers are overtures from Delaware and UNC-Wilmington. Appalachian State and UNC-Greensboro also have been recruiting him a while and also have offered scholarships. "I think schools were kind of hoping they could slip in there before the other schools catch on."

Other schools being bigger programs like Clemson. The Tigers head coach, Larry Shyatt, came last Thursday to watch Thompson. In recent action, including a game against Brandon Setzer (23 points, 16 rebounds) and Thomasville, Thompson had 25 points and 13 rebounds. He had 24 and 15 Friday night.

"He's kind of leaning towards Clemson simply because it's the ACC.

"He loves to play and he's qualified." is looking to take in one of Thompson's games early next week. We'll report back with more.
