ACC Is Painter's Destination

Deshawn Painter hails from an ACC hotbed. The one-time Florida signee took a circuitous route to the ACC but made his pick on Wednesday.

It's not easy adding good players this time of the year but the North Carolina State Wolfpack had done just that. Deshawn Painter,'s No. 69 prospect, is headed to Raleigh.

Painter, a 6-foot-9 power forward, had been down to three schools but trimmed his list up to a pair when Allan Chaney transferred to Virginia Tech. "I think it came down to N.C. State and Maryland and he liked both places a lot," Hargrave head coach Kevin Keatts told "With N.C. State he feels he's got a chance to play right away and there's a certain comfort level that he has with those guys."

Painter joins a recruiting class that includes Lorenzo Brown, Richard Howell, Scott Wood, Jordan Vandenberg and Josh Davis.

"You're getting a guy that can come in and play right away. He's an athletic kid that can step out and knock down the open shot. He's going to bring a little bit of inside-outside to N.C. State they can use.

Painter originally committed and signed with the Florida Gators. Once he was released from his commitment last month his recruitment quickly escalated. He's a native of the Tidewater area.
