So on Friday the power forward from Bloomington (Ind.) South gave Brad Stevens and his staff a verbal commitment.
"Butler was just too good to pass up," Indiana Elite coach Mike Fox said.
"Erik is a little bit of a late bloomer and some of his offers were coming a little bit later, but Butler really saw some things and saw some potential," he continued. "Erik really fell in love with the schools, the coaching staff and the way they play."
Among the other schools involved were William & Mary, Rice, Xavier, Oregon State and a host of other mid-major programs in the midwest. According to Fox, had Fromm waited to make a decision he would have received some bigger offers.
"He could have waited and maybe had some bigger offers, but in his eyes that was the best offer," he said. "He's a kid that would have blown up in July had a lot more people saw him. He just turned 17 three months ago. He's a young junior."
