Latavious Williams is finally off the board. The talented forward made his collegiate decision on Tuesday.
For years as an assistant coach, Josh Pastner was known as a relentless recruiter. Now as a head coach, he's scored his first big recruit.
On Tuesday the new Memphis coach received a commitment from Latavious Williams, who did a post grad season at Kingsville (Tex.) Christian Life Academy this past year.
"I got a really good relationship with him," he said. "When Calipari was there he was recruiting me then. He just got the head coaching job and kept recruiting me. He's young, but I think he's going to be a good coach."
Georgetown was strong in the mix for Williams, as was Florida International, but the 6-foot-8, 200-pound big man thought Memphis was the best fit for him.
"It was a better fit for me and my family," Williams told Scout.com. "It's close to my home. It just fit me on and off the court."
Williams joins JUCO standout Will Coleman to make up the Tigers 2009 recruiting class.
