Top Three For Deonta Burton

Deonta Burton, a junior guard from Southern California, is drawing interest from Big West, Mountain West and Big East programs...

Deonta Burton, 6-1 JR SG/PG Compton (Calif.) Centennial, is a well put together young prospect who might end up playing either guard spot in college. Right now he's a two guard in terms of his approach to the game and overall skill level. But he's got a chance to defend the one at the next level and he may spend some time at PG in college.

I spoke with Burton at the Pangos Camp and asked about the programs recruiting him.

"It's mainly been Utah, Marquette and Long Beach State," said Burton. "Long Beach State and Utah have offered."

I asked Burton what he's looking for in a school.

"I want to see how the academic situation is and what kind of support they offer," said Burton. "I also want to see what the campus is like. I'd kind of like to stay in California, but I'll go wherever the best situation is for me."

Burton said he's in no hurry to reach a decision.

"I'm not going to pick a school too soon," said Burton. "I want to make sure I make the right decision."

Burton has yet to take any visits, but says he plans on attending Utah's Elite Camp on July 1st.

Burton said he currently has a 2.8 GPA.
