Challenge Series: Deng Goes For 30

DURHAM, N.C. – Luol Deng looked to be right at home on Coach K Court and didn't disappoint in the first Hoop Group Challenge Series at Duke. Deng's performance highlighted a Saturday evening triple-header from Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Deng Played Like Headliner At Hoop Group Event

Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski sat courtside and watched Blue Devils signee Luol Deng pick apart Raleigh Millbrook's defense to the tune of 30 points and 11 rebounds. Throw in 3 assists, 2 steals and a pair of blocks, and the Blair Academy senior had about as complete a first game on Coach K Court that can be had. Blair defeated one of the finest teams in North Carolina 77-60.

The 30 points were impressive, but it was Deng' s signature court demeanor, vision and control of the game that made this a complete effort and a treat for the 1,500 fans in the building. Deng had command of the game and his 12-for-17 from the field was earned.

Millbrook crept back into the game in the second quarter when its guards began hitting from the outside. Senior Durrall Peterson led the charge with 15 points. Junior Cameron Stanley had 13 but his shot wasn't falling and he finished 4-for-16 from the floor before fouling out early in the fourth quarter.

Illinois-bound senior Charlie Villanueva finished with 18 points and 12 boards, but this was not vintage Charlie. A tough night from the line (7-for-15) had him a little frustrated.

NOTES – Mike Krzyzewski, Steve Wojciechowski and Chris Collins sat courtside to watch this game. … At least two NBA scouts were on hand for the contest. …
