Johnson Takes A Visit, Plans A Few More

Noel Johnson has a handful of schools vying for his services. The 6-foot-6 wing just took a pair of visits and is preparing for a few more.

The Noel Johnson recruitment is getting closer to an end. In fact, Lynbert "Cheese" Johnson, Noel's father, says it's possible that a decision could come as early as seven days.

"We want to have everything done within a week, so where he picks he can get enrolled in summer school," the elder Johnson told Monday afternoon.

Johnson, who is ranked No. 56 in the 2009 recruiting class, recently took an unofficial visit to Charlotte. Then this past weekend he took an official visit to Las Vegas (Nev.) to see UNLV.

"They were both pretty good," Johnson said. "Both gave us the red carpet treatments. They were very good. He'd only taken one visit before, so I wanted him to have some schools to compare to."

Next up is an official visit to Xavier, which will come on Wednesday. The Johnson's already have a strong relationship with one of Xavier's new coaches, and that's played a big role in Xavier's recent recruiting efforts.

"Their head associate, Pat Kelsey, was at Wake Forest and he recruited Noel real hard when he was at Wake Forest," Johnson said.

Following the trip to Cincinnati (Ohio), LSU and Connecticut will likely get visits as well. Johnson also mentioned Indiana as a possible visit.

"We want him to go somewhere that he feels comfortable and gets a good education and can play sports at the same time," Noel's father said. "That's our main interest."

Johnson, a four-star prospect, originally signed a Letter of Intent with USC, but recently opted for a release.
