Process Winding Down For Latham

Jordan Latham is tackling the recruiting process for the second time, and the Baltimore native may be coming to a decision in the near future.

Sean Miller's departure from Xavier threw off 2010 prospect Jordan Latham.

So in April the 6-foot-9, 210-pound big man opened up his recruitment. Just a few months later, Xavier is still firmly in the mix for Latham, as are a handful of other high major programs.

"The recruiting process is going real good," Latham told "I'm still looking at Xavier real hard and schools like Marquette, Virginia Tech and Penn State."

Xavier's new head coach Chris Mack has made Latham, of Baltimore (Md.) City College, a priority since he got the job. On top of that his assistant Bino Ranson has strong ties to the Baltimore area.

"With the relationship it's almost like nothing ever changed for real," Latham said. "Coach Mack just replaced Coach Miller and Coach Bino replaced Book [Richardson]. Me and Bino talk all the time and he's always asking about my game. We talk on a consistent basis."

According to Latham, he's going to take a visit to Xavier, and possibly stop by Marquette or Penn State in the near future. Marquette and Penn State jumped on him once he decommitted and he's developed relationships with their assistant coaches.

"I got a pretty good relationship with coach [Aki] Collins from Marquette and assistant coach [Lewis] Preston from Penn State," he said.

If Latham's timetable is a clue, it sounds like those visits may come soon, as the talented big man is hoping to get his decision out of the way within the next month.

"I'm probably going to make it either in a couple of weeks or maybe sometime at the beginning of July," Latham said.

"I'm starting to figure it out now because it's getting close to the time where I think I should make a commitment again," he added. "I'm getting there. It's getting real close and I'm starting to wind the schools down."
